It's funny how parts of those lazy days are still in play today. I'm still in my pajamas almost all day and yes, that illusive shower is still optional (or rather impossible). I am NOT however in front of the tv enjoying Jane Austen and reveling as Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy meet, hate each other, and then find that that hatred really flows well into true love (doesn't it always?) Instead, I am singing nursery rhymes, playing toddler games, and watching a big purple dinosaur teach manners and counting.
To say that my days are ever Lazy would be somewhat of an oxymoron.
Lazy or not, around here summer is still in full swing...
...we still make our daily commute (around the block) hoping to wear kids out but actually just wearing us out some more.
During the hottest days (really how hot can 110+ degrees be???) we are outside in the water as much as possible.
Whether it's visiting the splash pad in St. George...
Or just imploring older brother to turn on the sprinklers in the back yard...
We'll look for any excuse to get wet!
We'll even voluntarily get messy at lunch
just to get hosed down outside.
Sometimes we enlist our cousins (my nephews) to take us to the splash pad in Mesquite.
We plug the drains and pretend we're swimming. Anything to entertain ourselves in the 100+ degree heat.
When we're not in the water, we're out finding other things to fill our time (which in translation really means wearing out the kiddlets).
St. George recently put in a carousel down in the main street square. We love it! It's right next to the splash pad, the library and the old tabernacle. We love spending the evenings and afternoons there when there's not much going on.
Not all of our summer events take place outdoors.
The twins' favorite sport this summer has been teething. That makes for lots of drool and 2 pairs of hands in two sets of mouths.
It also makes for not so happy babies. Vance cut his two bottom teeth in at the same time. Poor, poor baby!
it also means frequently having to take things away from them that they like to chew on (maybe he's been watching the dog a little too much).
The twins are learning to try finger foods. Ava LOVES jerky. If she drops it, she cries and cries until it finds its way back into her pudgy little hand again. Carnivore.
Some of our other activities have included: painting,
sewing,
and even hide and seek (though I confess it took me 10 minutes or so to realize he was so quiet and didn't know we had actually started the game of hide and seek).
On truly eventful days, just to break up the monotony, we get visits from cousins,
go on drives and run into good friends,
or even help dad run the excavator once in a while.

So while your days are full of hustle and bustle, think of us and our little family of five slowly enjoying our lazy days of summer. And that, my friends is your good laugh for the day. Now go on and enjoy it!
