Dear Summer,
While we've loved having you here, loved your fresh sunshine on our shoulders,
and finding new ways to entertain ourselves in your presence,
we have come to the realization that you, our dear friend, are leaving.
This Sunday we celebrated one last time with a BBQ out back and basked in your glow.
Dad decided (between sessions of conference) that he would put up the "camping house" for the week in celebration of Summer's end. One last hurrah. One last sleep out for the year. One last....oh who are we kidding? This is Southern Utah. There will be many more camp outs to come!
I will however miss BBQ chicken and watermelon,
and faces like this
But I know that even though Summer is on her way out, many more memories are on their way in.
Like the big boys having nights in the camping house
Trying to fall asleep (this was going on hour 2. He was just too excited to sleep. First he had to come in to pee. Then it was to get another blanket. Then is was simply to tell me he was having so much fun). Soon after we decided to head upstairs and sleep in his big boy bed.
Mainly so mom and dad could get some rest.
Though it didn't stop them from eating breakfast, lunch and dinner out there the next day.
At least we got a good day or two in before the thunder and rain started.
Poor kids. Today we were stuck inside most of the day because of all the rain.
My house went from clean to disaster in 2.5 minutes.
I had to remind myself that at least they were having fun.
Their favorite game for the day-
"Making a Mess".
Apparently it was so much fun that upon waking up from his nap, Kurt came downstairs and asked, "Hi Mom. I want to play the making mess game again".
So here's to Summer,
our sweet and fleeting friend.
Until next year.
If it's ok with you, we'd like to still consume watermelon by the ton.
It's all we have.
Please at least give us that.
