Old McDonald had a (Dairy) Farm

Sometimes when we're at Grandpa and Grandma's out in the country, we like to do what the locals do.  Today we went to visit a place where dad used to work and see where milk comes from.

For months now Chase always asks Kurt where we get things like our milk and eggs from.  His reply is always something like, "We buy it from the store dad!"  We try over and over to tell him that before that, it actually comes from cows.  The look we get back tells us it's not quite sinking in yet.

So when Dad arrived a few days ago, the first thing he wanted to do was take the kids to the dairy farm.
We visited with the cows (mostly their back ends) as we walked in.
Bubba has no fear when it comes to animals, so we had to make sure to take special care that he didn't get too close.  Too late- it didn't take him long to go right up to a young calf and demand a "kiss".
When we told the owner of the dairy that Vance and Ava were twins, she immediately took us to see her new twins, two baby calves born just a few days earlier.  She said they were as different as night and day (sounds familiar!)

After that, we toured the dairy as Dad showed us where milk actually comes from!

Oddly enough, the cow we were milking went by the name of, "Ava" and she seemed to think our little Ava was just yummy!

We spent the rest of our time getting close to and feeding our Holstein friends.

Some of us (ahem...Vance) didn't really get the idea to stay back and once or twice was licked from navel to nose.

He thought it was hilarious!

...Others- not so much!
All in all, it was a great time.  When traveling always do what the locals do.

It will not disappoint.

Oh, and this morning when I poured Kurt some very fresh, very rich milk from that same dairy, without any prompting he proudly said, "Milk?!  Milk comes from cows!"  And that my friends, is how we count success.

Now on to eggs and wool.  As for chicken and meat, maybe we'll save that for another day.
